The millenary history of Christianity is undeniably part of our historical and cultural legacy. It can be interpreted from a historic perspective that is sensitive to the decisive contribution it made to the formation of a Christian Europe or it can be brought closer to a perspective that is sensitive to the current religious situation, where Christian values appear increasingly marginalised. Finally, one could even decide to approach this complex and fascinating history form the point of view of the believer desirous to explore the roots of his faith. It is to this set of requirements and queries that The History of Christianity—of which this volume is a part—sets out to respond.
