The millennial story of Christianity is an indelible part of our historical and cultural patrimony. It can be examined in a historical perspective, which takes account of its decisive contribution in shaping Christian Europe. It can be viewed in a perspective that reflects on the current religious scenario, in which Christian values appear increasingly marginalized. Or a decision can be made to approach this complex and fascinating story from the point of view of believers who desire to learn more about the origins of their faith. The History of Christianity series, of which this volume is part, sets out to combine and satisfy all three premises.
