The Eolie are ideal for discovering the strange heart beating at the centre of the world. They are ideal for discovering that only by going there – to where the heart beats – can one finally feel at home. Each island is an animal fossil. Stromboli is the ancestor of the boar. Panarea is the forbearer of the gecko. Filicudi is a triceratops facing into the abyss. Vulcano has the yellow fur of the first lion. Salina, with its two volcanoes, is the forefather of the camel. Alicudi is the fossil of a kangaroo playing dead on the waves. Lipari emerges from the water like a crocodile. If you ever decide to visit, leave your house at dawn and come back in the middle of the night. Spend all day going on foot from one end of the island to the other, without stopping. Spend an evening outdoors. Above all, keep island hopping, move around as much as possible. Because there are seven Eolie. And to hear their story you have to visit them all and come back and come back again, even to where we have already been.
